About TCYB

TCYB Mission Statement

The Tazewell County Youth Board is an organization for teens in the Tazewell County area comprised of students from local high schools.

The goal is to build leadership, individuality, and self-esteem through activities dealing with important issues that impact teens and the prevention of alcohol, tobacco & other drugs.

In order to accomplish these goals, the Youth Board needs support and funding from local communities.

About TCYB
The Tazewell County Youth Board (TCYB) was founded in 1991 by the Tazewell County Health Department. The Board is composed of students from area Tazewell County high schools. TCYB members agree to follow a code of conduct year-round in both their public and private lives. Throughout the year they are involved in many different functions. They perform Community Service including Tazewell County’s Night Out Against Crime and Hearts & Hands.

Members participate in a number of fund raisers to help cover the costs of their Adopt-a-Family project. Adopt-a-Family is held each December where the Board purchases groceries and presents for their “family”. The Board is trained annually on group facilitation, teamwork, and leadership skills in preparation for the Tazewell County Teen Conference. The Teen Conference is planned exclusively by TCYB. They pick the annual theme, design the t-shirts, and write the skit, which is the opening act for the Conference. They are also instrumental in selecting the workshop topics along with facilitating many of them.
